Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation

We provide solutions for our client’s problems

The Law Offices of Mitchell S. Shea, P.A. combines experience, skill, personal service and a proactive litigation style when representing Longshoremen. Our maritime attorneys are experienced in the litigation of Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) claims before the United States Department of Labor.  We are known for tenaciously fighting for our clients’ rights.

The Longshore Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) is a federally administered program providing wage compensation and medical benefits to individuals who sustained injury or contracted an occupational disease while employed on a navigable waterway or the adjoining areas, such as adjoining piers,

dry docks, and terminals, that are primarily involved in the loading, unloading, repairing or building of a vessel. In the event of death, the Act provides for compensation benefits to be paid to the employee’s dependents. Covered employees under the LHWCA include any person engaged in maritime employment, including any longshoreman or other person engaged in longshoring operations, and any harbor worker, including a ship repairman, shipbuilder, and shipbreaker.

Working at a port or shipyard is dangerous.  If you are or know a longshoreman or harbor worker who has been injured in any of the following ways while working in ports or shipyards, please have them call one of our attorneys for a free consultation.
